Land size : 1,845.92㎢
Population : 539,493
people(statistics from 2000)

Situated in a most ideal setting, just 64 kilometers south of the Korean Peninsula is Korea’s argest island, Jeju. Jeju is a magical place known for 3 things: roaring winds, magnificent rocks, and scores of women. As one of the host cities of the 2002 Korea/Japan FIFA World Cup, Jeju’s Seogwipo City made for a most enchanting environment. Jeju is a focal point of international affairs and is able to offer people many kinds of recreation with breathtaking vistas, a temperate climate and a unique traditional culture. Located in the center of this volcanically formed island is Mt. Hallasan (a dormant volcano), which is filled with over 1,800 species of vegetation, scores of deer, and an ecosystem that will surely amaze all. Jeju offers unbelievably breathtaking views from coast to coast, ranging from the waterfalls at Hae-anjidae to the naturally sculpted cliffs at Jusang Jeolli. Tourists can enjoy each season in Jeju with a particular splash of color; brilliant yellow-colored flowers in the spring that spread across the landscape, the golden beaches and sea vistas in the summertime, the Eulalia’s light brown wispy reeds flowing in the autumn winds, and the lovely snow flowers of Hallasan in winter are all must-sees of Jeju.
One can enjoy these wonderments by hiking, bike riding, paragliding, scuba diving, windsurfing, hunting, horseback riding, swimming in the ocean, and sightseeing boat trips. Jeju also has a wide variety of native foods, such as the delicious Jeju tangerines and native dishes including: redtile fish stew, grilled redtile fish with seasoning, rice porridge with abalone, pheasant dishes and hair-tail fish soup.

Jeju is more than simply a tourist destination; it is an island full of wonder. Making the most of its ability to attract considerable numbers of tourists and with its geopolitical location, Jeju is in the process of changing into an International Free City. Jeju promises to be an island that rides the wave of technology while still keeping true to its ecological treasures.

Korea is beautiful mountainous peninsula stretching south from Northeast Asia. During their 5,000-year history, the Koreans have created an outstanding culture, and their uniqueness resonates throughout the land.
Korea is currently the only nation on the globe remaining ideologically divided. Republic of Korea in the South has a population of 47 million, of which 10 million live in the capital, Seoul. South Korea had one of the fastest economic developments in the world since the 1960s and is now the 3rd largest economy in Asia and the 11th largest economy in the world. The nation is home to many of the world's largest transnational corporations such as Samsung, Hyundai, SK and LG.

Geographical Make-up

Mountains cover 70% of Korea's land mass, making it one of the most mountainous regions in the world. The lifting and folding of Korea’s granite and limestone base creates breathtaking landscapes of scenic hills and valleys. The mountain range that stretches the length of the east coast falls steeply into the East Sea, while along the southern and western coasts, the mountains descend gradually to the coastal plains that produce the bulk of Korea’s agricultural crops, especially rice.

Climate

Korea's climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoon climate from a precipitation standpoint. The climate of Korea is characterized by four distinct seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Spring of Korea

Spring lasts from late March to May and is warm. Various flowers, including the picturesque cherry blossom, cover the nation's mountains and fields during this time.

Summer of Korea

Summer lasts from June to early September. It is a hot and humid time of the year.

Autumn of Korea

Autumn lasts from September to November, and produces mild weather. It is the best season for visiting Korea.

Winter of Korea

Winter lasts from December to mid-March. It can be bitterly cold during this time due to the influx of cold Siberian air. Heavy snow in the northern and eastern parts of Korea makes favorable skiing conditions.
