What is SC B5?
What is Study Committee B5 (SC B5) ?
Study Committee B5 is the forum to meet technical experts and like minded individuals and gain access to international best practice and benchmarking. Like the other study committees, Study Committee B5 carries out its work through Working Groups, formed to research and report on specific subjects, typically over a 2-3 year period. The results of these working groups are published as technical reports and summarized in the bi-monthly CIGRE journal, ELECTRA.
Study committee B5 covers principles, design, applications, coordination, performance and asset management of:
o System Protection
o Substation Control and Automation
o Remote Control Systems and Equipment
o Metering Systems and Equipment
All technical, organisational and economical aspects are considered including staff education and training. Emphasis is placed on design and application of digital technology and modern integrated system approach including hardware and software for the acquisition of system state information, local and remote data communication, and execution of control commands.
