Dear colleagues

It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the Study Committee B5 Annual Meeting and Colloquium 2009 which is to be held in Jeju, Korea from Monday 19 October to Saturday 24 October 24, 2009 on behalf of Korean CIGRE members and local organizing committee members.

The mission of the Study Committee B5 is to facilitate and promote the progress of engineering and the international exchange of information and knowledge in the field of protection and automation. SC B5 annual meeting and colloquium 2009 in Jeju, Korea will provide a platform for the experts, scholars and engineers to exchange experience and share knowledge in three preferential subjects - Strategies for the Lifetime Maintenance of SAS Systems, Protection & Control of FACT devices and impact on Protection Systems and Wide Area Monitoring, Control & Protection Technologies.

International Conference on Advanced Power System Automation and Protection (APAP2009) will be jointly held with SC B5 Colloquium 2009, which doubles the meaning of our gathering. The SC B5 Colloquium 2009 registered participants will be invited free to all technical sessions of APAP 2009.

Jeju Island of Korea is world-famous as one of tourist paradise for its unique culture and maintained natural features. I believe that you will have very unique and pleasant experiences not only from the conference venue during the SC B5 Colloquium 2009 and APAP2009 but also from the natural features and unique culture of Jeju.

I hope that the conference be successful and enjoyable and be a good opportunity to build a close cooperation channel among the worldwide participants of conference. Lastly I’d like to express my sincere thanks to those who make contribution to this event.
